TOYOTA'S NORTH AMERICAN SALES TOP 2 MLN UNITS IN '03

TOKYO, Jan 6 Asia Pulse - Toyota Motor Corp. (TSE:7203) said Sunday that its new-auto sales in North America surpassed 2 million units in 2003 thanks to gains among models such as the Corolla sedan.

This also marks the first time that an automaker other than General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. or DaimlerChrysler AG has generated that many sales in the region.

U.S. sales totaled around 1.85 million units, while sales in Canada and Mexico reached about 165,000 units and roughly 10,000 units, respectively, according to Toyota.

Sales of sport utility vehicle models such as the Highlander also proved brisk in the U.S. market.
